What to expect:

Oriental dance can be learnt by anyone irrespective of age, weight or height. Most students can become comfortable with basic moves in a matter of months, and very fluent within one or two years of study. Dedication and willingness to learn, combined with practice is of the essence in order to reap maximum benefits from the classes. In oriental dance, one can never stop learning!

Physical and Emotional Benefits:

Bellydance is an excellent form of low-impact exercise, with minimal stress on the knees and feet - it provides a good cardio-vascular workout, helps increase flexibility whilst improving muscle control, coordination and posture. Additionally, bellydance helps strengthen the core muscles, tightening the abdominals and obliques as well as building leg strength. Veil work has shown to improve arm, shoulder and overall upper-body strength whereas playing sagat improves independence and strength of the fingers. Isolations enhance the ability to move various muscles or muscle groups independently. As a weight-bearing exercise, it can reduce the risk of osteoporosis and helps increase metabolism. Furthermore, bellydance improves the circulation whilst at the same time mobilizing the abdominal and pelvic regions. Calorie-wise, you can expect to burn as much as power walking, light jogging, swimming or cycling. Besides the obvious physical benefits, bellydance also promotes a positive body image, improves self-esteem and self-confidence, whilst reducing stress.
