"rak"ing the rock, one shimmy at a time!

Frequently Asked Questions

A. What should I wear for class? Is there anthing in particular that I need to bring with me?

Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable, something you can move around in easily. Comfortable clothing such as yoga or jazz pants and a close fitting top (or a crop top) are highly recommended. You can either dance barefoot or if you prefer you can wear flexible soled dance shoes (ballet shoes or split-heel jazz shoes are fine), socks, or bellydance shoes / sandals / half-sandals. A selection of bellydance practicewear will be available for purchase shortly. Bellydance sandals and shoes are available for purchase from us on order basis. Check out our STORE section for details.

We also highly recommend tying a hip scarf around your waist - this will help you see the movement as you develop those fabulous shimmies. A wide selection of exclusive hip scarfs and coinbelts handpicked from Egypt are available for purchase – check out the STORE section or ask me during class. Veils, finger cymbals, canes and other props may be are required for certain modules (check class description). You can make your own veil or buy ready made. A selection of veils, canes and cymbals are currently available for purchase from our STORE.

Also, please bring a bottle of water, lots of energy and a big SMILE! :)

B. How long does it take to learn to belly dance?

We all have different learning curves - some of us learn at a faster pace than others and some practice more than others. Some people will have experience in other dance forms, others won't. Either way, anyone can learn to bellydance - patience with oneself, determination and perseverance are the key to success.

C. What if I miss a class?

You may make up missed classes in any technique class that is not full or closed, at the same level or below, during the current session. Kindly call/sms to confirm availability. Missed classes must be made up during the current session and cannot be rolled over to future sessions. No exceptions!

D. Do you offer private classes?

Yes, email me for more information.

E. Can I get a refund for the missed classes?

I do not offer refunds. You may make-up for the missed classes by attending any technique class at the same level or below during the SAME session only. Missed classes cannot be rolled over to the next session.

F. Do you have to be thin or full-figured to belly dance?

Belly dance is for all ages, shapes and sizes. The movements are natural and flattering for all body types

G. When do classes start?

Classes are taught on a semester-based curriculum, with three semesters each year. New classes begin in January, mid-April and late September. Only specialty classes and short courses focusing on technique are taught over the Summer period.

H. Can I video the teacher during class?

No. Taking videos during class is prohibited. Videos are only allowed for choreography classes, at the end of the session (i.e. the last class, when the choreography is complete). Uploading of these videos on social media sites or sharing them with third parties is not allowed. Choreographies remain the property of their respective choreographer.
